Mansfield schoolchildren were left shaken but uninjured after their school bus was in collision with a lorry on the A617 this morning.

The driver of a school bus suffered minor injuries after the crash at Hockerton.

Police say the children on board the Stagecoach bus were uninjured in the crash at 8.30am.

The driver of the lorry was also uninjured in the collision near Averham crossroads.

A spokesman for Stagecoach said: “At around 8.25am, a lorry was involved in a collision with one of our buses operating a school service carrying 28 people between Newark and All Saints School at Mansfield.

The incident happened on the A617 near Hockerton.

“A small number of passengers, and the driver, reported minor injuries and were treated by paramedics at the scene but not taken to hospital.

“Our first thoughts are for the welfare of those involved.

“Safety is our priority and we will be assisting the police with their inquiries into this incident.”

Maureen Cobbert, headteacher at all Saints Catholic Academy said: “The pupils were all delivered safely on areplacement bus and have all been in school today.

“There were no injuries although a couple were a little bit shaken. The paramedics were there but had noo need to deal with any of the children.”

A police spokesman said the circumstances of the incident were under investigation.
