Mansfield set for 10th Big Snore

People in Mansfield are being urged to sleep rough for a single night to ensure that others don’t have to.

Mansfield’s St Mark’s Church, in partnership with the homelessness charity Framework, is challenging people to swap their warm beds for cardboard boxes and their favourite pyjamas for sleeping bags and woolly hats on 31st January at the tenth annual Mansfield Big Snore.

Framework is currently working hard to reduce the level of rough sleeping in the town.

On a typical night it is supporting up to half a dozen people who are either sleeping in the open, in tents, or in dangerous and unhealthy environments.

Chris Bugden, Framework’s Operations Manager for Homelessness and Housing, said: “Rough sleeping is dangerous and potentially life-threatening. The people who are forced to sleep rough risk their health and their lives in this way and are some of the most vulnerable and hard to reach in our society.

“This is an issue that remains a problem in this community and we are working hard to bring it under control.
