Marathon will honour Rainworth man’s lost family

The brother of six children who died after their father, convicted killer Mick Philpott, set a deliberate fire in their home is raising money for the hospital which cared for one of them.

Rainworth man Richard Philpott says staff on the Intensive Care ward at Birmingham Children’s Hospital worked tirelessly to save his brother Duwayne’s life.

Tragically the 13 year-old, who had severe burns, did not survive, but Richard hopes running the London Marathon to raise money for the hospital will bring some meaning to the loss.

He said: “Finding out about the devastation the fire had caused at the family home left me empty. I could not believe what I had been told.

“I cannot speak highly enough of the staff - they not only worked professionally but went above and beyond this to help Duwayne and our family.”
