Memory kits for Nottinghamshire dementia carers

‘Memory Lane kits’ or reminiscence packs to support people with dementia and their loved ones will also be available in Nottinghamshire libraries in the next few weeks.

The Council is among the first local authorities in England to develop the packs, which are on loan and feature books, CDs and DVDs, themed objects and photographs.

Themes include seaside, transport and life in the 1940s.

Nottinghamshire County Council spends around £28m a year on helping people with memory and cognition problems, including assisting people with dementia and £14.3m on residents in care homes that have the mark.

The services include home care, day services and support to main carers including short breaks so they can have a holiday or a regular break when they need it.

The Council has awarded 33 cares homes across the county the Dementia Quality Mark in recognition of the high quality care that they give to people with dementia.
