Mortgage scheme aids market

Lloyds Bank, Ashfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council’s ongoing partnership to provide Local Lend a Hand mortgages has given Sutton couple Tom Hovell and Sian Parker the chance to move into their first home in Alfreton Road.

The Local Lend a Hand scheme, a £1 million investment package launched in January to give first time buyers the opportunity to purchase a home with a deposit of just 5 per cent.

It has so far helped hundreds of people across the county make the move into their own home.

David Greenwood, deputy chief executive at Ashfield District Council, said: “Ashfield Council has made Housing one of its priorities, and is involved both in new build Council Housing, and the renovation of empty homes for re-occupation.

“The Local Lend a Hand scheme is another good example of practical help which, working with its partners, the Council can give.

“The scheme is a successful partnership between Lloyds, Nottinghamshire County Council, Capita Asset Services and ourselves, and we are grateful for our partners continued support.

“I am delighted that this young couple have been able to use the scheme to purchase their first home, and hope that many more prospective home owners will be able to do the same.”
