Mum drunk on moped at Tesco

STAFF at Hucknall's Tesco superstore called police when they saw a drunken woman shopper about to drive off on a moped, a court heard.

The mother-of-two pleaded guilty at Mansfield Magistrates Court to riding a moped when over the drink-drive limit.

Kerry Moran (25), of Charles Street, also admitted having no licence or insurance for the moped.

Lisa Tunstall (prosecuting) said staff at the Tesco superstore off Station Road contacted police just before 6 am on Friday November 27 after spotting a "drunken female" with a moped.

An officer found Moran astride the moped and she was pushing it to get it started. A breath test showed she had 90 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 35.

The court heard that the moped belonged to Moran's father and she was going to sell it for him.

She pushed it to the superstore to buy cigarettes and asked a member of the public to help to get it started. She was given a caution for taking the moped without her father's consent.

Annette Parkin (defending) said the impact of the drink which Moran had consumed affected her thinking and the offence was completely out of character. She had no previous convictions.

The court was told that Moran hoped to go back to college for a hairdressing course, having previously completed the first part of it.

She was put under a community order with supervision for six months and banned from driving for two years. She was also ordered to pay 85 costs.
