Newstead Village crime victim Maude, 97, thanks public for support

Maud Rodgers of Newstead Village who has suffered a house burglary.

Maude Rodgers (97) was featured in last week’s Ashfield Chad.

Her home was one of four targeted by heartless thieves who broke in to properties in Newstead Village sometime between 8pm and 11pm on Saturday 4th May.

Maude. of Livingstone Street, spoke to the media in order to help bring the culprits to justice.

She appeared in newspapers and on the television, and spoke of the heartbreak of losing cherished items, such as an inscribed ingot necklace with the words “Roy-Maude 50 happy years”.

Maude this week told the Chad: “I’m still not well really, after all that happened.

“But I would like to say thank you to people for their support.

“I’m pleased people have contactd me and sent cards and have been to see me.”

The burglars stole money, jewellery and other items in the raid on Maude’s home, where she has lived for around 76 years.

Following the incident, Det Sgt Marcus Oldroyd said that he hoped that Maude’s plea would spark the public’s attention.

He also said that Newstead Village does not suffer from high crime and that the burglaries were an isolated series.

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping commented: “I’m delighted that neighbours have rallied round in Newstead, which has a great sense of community.”

Police are still investigating the incident but a spokesperson said that no arrests had yet been made.
