Nottinghamshire County Council show support for Armed Forces

Armed Forces Day is the annual, national campaign that gives everyone the opportunity to show their support for the men and women of the Armed Forces past and present, including currently serving troops, service families, reservists, veterans and cadets.

The Armed Forces flag was raised at 11am on Monday (June 23) in a ceremony attended by the Ven Air Vice-Marshal, Robin Turner, Deputy Lieutenant of Nottinghamshire; the Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Coun Pauline Allan; the Sheriff of Nottingham, Councillor Jackie Morris; and representatives of the Armed Forces, including local cadets.

The flag will be flown at the back of County Hall, alongside the River Trent, for a week -- including on Armed Forces Day itself, Saturday June 28.

Similar events are taking place across the UK, enabling people to come out and show their support, and giving a much-valued morale boost for Armed Forces personnel and their families.

Coun Allan said: “The UK Armed Forces defend our country and its interests every day of the year. They are busy working around the world, promoting peace, delivering aid, tackling drug smugglers, providing security and fighting terrorism.

“I know that the people of Nottinghamshire are right behind our forces – whether they be serving troops and their families, reservists, veterans or cadets.”
