John Wilmott column: This patchwork approach to fixing potholes simply doesn’t work
and live on Freeview channel 276
Every month in the Dispatch, I will be giving you an update on what is happening at Ashfield District Council and Nottinghamshire County Council that will interest Hucknall people.
In addition, each month I will be promoting a charity that I feel needs supporting in the work that they are doing on behalf of the community.

Hide AdMay I first of all thank everyone who supported us, the Ashfield Independents, in last month’s Nottinghamshire County Council elections.
We took all three seats in Hucknall and we will be serving all the people all the year round in the town.
You can get in touch by ringing Hucknall West’s Coun Dave Shaw on 07592 805865, Hucknall South’s Coun Lee Waters on 07845 703514 and myself, Hucknall North’s councillor, on 07854 845449.
In my first week as a county councillor, I spent some time investigating the problem of potholes.

Hide AdThis is one of the main issues on people’s minds at present, and the picture is not pretty.
In my ward, many streets have a problem and they need fixing properly and over the next few weeks there will be discussions on how to address the problem.
What must improve is the patchwork quilt approach in which the repair looks awful and needs further maintenance a few weeks later.
Every pothole needs cutting out and repairing properly, instead of filling in and stamping down.
I have to say that I do not hold my breath on this issue.

Hide AdThis month’s charity to be featured in this column, that I hope you will support, is When You Wish Upon A Star.
Their mission is to grant the wishes of children who are living with a life-threatening illness.
If you can support The SuperHero Wish Walk taking place at the present time, then please do so.
If you are interested in helping with this, then please e-mail whenyouwish.org.uk and help out this worthy charity.
Next month in this column, you will be able to learn what the councils in this area are doing for you.
