Money wasted on Annesley Road island

ONE sunny morning, while on my way to work along Hucknall bypass towards the island close to the former International Clothing Centre at Annesley Road, the traffic suddenly came to a standstill.

Shock horror, the island was now down to one lane.

Roadworks, I thought. All these people who will now be late. But no!

Someone in authority had decided to spend what little money there is on block-paving the edge of the island.

Maybe it's for the birds or other wildlife to amble around. It's certainly not for the public as you would risk death trying to get on to the island.

I'm not one who likes to complain. But the money this cost could surely have been spent on a more deserving project.

I cannot believe the work being carried out is one of aesthetics because the speed drivers travel around this island would leave the mind blank as to what they had just seen.

But hey, it's a great calming device for people who need to get to work and I expect it won't be done in a hurry.
