Park cafe opens

HUCKNALL'S Titchfield Park looked its best in glorious sunshine for the second day of the roadshow on Sunday.

But there was a potentially stormy undercurrent at the official opening of the park’s new ‘Poppies’ cafeteria.

For the ceremony was performed by Coun Jason Zadrozny (Lib Dem), leader of Ashfield District Council.

And members of Hucknall’s George Street Tenants and Residents Association are still seething because Coun Zadrozny failed to attend one of their meetings earlier this year.

They wanted him to answer questions about controversial plans for new homes on the former St George’s Court and St James’s Court bedsits site.

A leading officer of the association was at the park event and a demonstration by members was anticipated – but this did not materialise.

At the opening, Coun Zadrozny said improvements to Titchfield Park tied in with his party’s 1 million investment in neighbourhood services, combined with a 40% increase in staff.

He added that the council were keen to liaise with community groups and volunteers for the betterment of Hucknall and the rest of the district.

The cafeteria, run by Hucknall Christian Centre, of Derbyshire Lane, is offering a wider menu for six weeks from tomorrow (Saturday).
