Park receives vital lottery funding grant

The Friends of Warsop’s Carrs Park have been awarded a grant of £44,800 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to help make improvements.

Plans include re-silting the Mill Dam, coppicing trees on the island and installing a dipping scrape along Askew Spa.

The project will also include a viewing platform and six fishing pegs.

A spokesman for Friends of the Carrs said: “We are exceptionally pleased that the Heritage Lottery Fund has given us this grant to help protect our heritage.

“It is an overwhelming feeling to realise that we can announce that funding is now secure, so thank you and well done to all who gave their support to the group..”

The group is involving the whole community in its project with replanting, surveying, historical research in schools and courses and workshops on conservation.

Friends of the Carrs was formed by a group of local residents in 2001.

It works with Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust, local authorities, the police and other volunteer groups and schools to encourage interest in the environment.

Over time the group has added new seating and picnic tables and created a meadow area, erected fencing and planted hedgerows and trees.
