Pentrich: Cancer sufferer aims to repay charity

A husband and wife couple are supporting the charity that helped them through cancer treatment by organising a coffee morning in Pentrich.

Andrew Castledine had a successful stem cell transplant in 2010 after suffering from multiple myeloma, but not before losing his sight to a virus suffered during chemotherapy.

Following his treatment at Nottingham City Hospital, he is now in full remission and, along with wife Hazel, is raising funds for Myeloma UK, who supported him during his battle.

The free admission event - which doubles up as a Christmas and craft fair - will take place in the Pentrich Village Hall on 2nd November from 10.30am to 3pm.

“It’s an opportunity to chat, eat cake and shop for Christmas,” said Hazel. “This is the third event we have held for Myeloma UK, having raised £750 and £850, plus £752 for a separate Valentine’s Day Raffle and we’re delighted to be able to give something back.”

Traders will be selling various items including silver jewellery, hand made crafts, Derby artist Roy Smith’s works and a selection of cakes.

There will also be a tombola, raffle and white elephant, while tea, coffee and other refreshments will also be available.
