13. Papplewick
Papplewick, which is close to Hucknall, wins the prize for the best named village in Nottinghamshire. It also wins plaudits for its ancient church, 18th century cottages, village pub, the Griffin's Head, and Papplewick Hall (pictured), which was built in the 1780s. 14. Willoughby-on-the-Wolds
Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, situated on the Notitnghamshire/Leicestershire border, is a beautiful village with a rich heritage. It was the scene of a minor battle in the English Civil War and is closely linked with the Roman encampment of Vernometum on the Fosse Way nearby. 15. Wysall
Wysall, which sits in the borough of Rushcliffe, is a small, picturesque village steeped in history and nestles in beautiful countryside. A self-contained agricultural village for most of its life, it boasts a Norman church and a popular pub, The Plough.
