Since the start of the first lockdown, Hucknall resident Dan Beeston has been working tirelessly to bring the people on his estate together and ensuring that moral was kept high during what was a very stressful time for so many.

It all started with the NHS clap for carers which soon evolved into a real community event thanks to Dan’s efforts.

Every Thursday residents from almost every household would meet on their driveways with hot food and drinks and have a socially distanced dance and a natter before and after the scheduled clap of appreciation.

Dan also arranged a number of other activities on the close, from Saturday afternoon Bingo to online quizzes, Dan reached out so that no one on the close felt alone.

And on VE day an afternoon tea was arranged with a prize for the best dressed house.

The organisers of the Hucknall Hero decided to surprise Dan with his award at a winter wonderland event.

Discussing his award, Dan said: “I couldn’t believe that my neighbours had been so kind to nominate me.

"It’s nice to know that my efforts have had such a positive impact on so many people.”

Hucknall Heroes organiser, Coun Phil Rostance, said: “Dan’s efforts have been so positive across his estate.

"For some, he’s given them a bit of a cheer or a pick-me-up, but for others, it will have had a genuinely positive impact on people’s mental health, ad that is so, so important.

“When I went to see for myself what work Dan has been doing, it’s clear that he really has lifted the area up, and he should be very proud.”

“On behalf of the all residents on the close and the people of Hucknall, thank you. You really are a Hucknall Hero.”

Coun Rostance also thanked the Rotary Club, for the use of their sleigh.
