Hucknall Central's Councillor Lee Waters quite Ashfield Independents

A leading Ashfield Independent politician who represents Hucknall has revealed that he has quit the party.

In a statement, Councillor Lee Waters, who represents Hucknall Central, has announced that he has left the Ashfield Independents and will continue to represent his constituents as an independent councillor.

The news comes following former AI leader Jason Zadrozny’s guilty verdicts for fraud and tax evasion and his impending sentencing in November. The party also came under fire recently for electing the shamed politician to Ashfield District Council’s planning committee, as well as the appointment of Councillor Samantha Deakin as his successor as council leader.

Councillor Waters, who has represented Hucknall Central since 2019, has not given reasons for his departure from the party.

He said: “I have decided to leave the Ashfield Independents and will continue representing Hucknall as a non-aligned Independent councillor.

“This decision follows a period of reflection, and I believe the time is right to move on.

“Throughout my time as a councillor, my priority has been to listen to residents, address their concerns and work hard on the issues that matter to our community. That remains unchanged.

“I will continue carrying out my council responsibilities and dealing with ongoing casework with the same commitment and dedication as always.”
