Nine year-old Mia Edwards had initially been hoping to raise £150 for the The Little Princess Trust which is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

But instead, the Holgate Primary School pupils efforts have seen donations go through the roof and she has now passed the £1,000 mark.

And with money still coming in, Mia’s final total is set to get even higher.

Her mum Katherine said: “We’re so proud of her, I was so nervous she wasn’t going to like her new shorter hair but she absolutely loves it and every shop or car window we go past, she has to stop and have a look.
