Nine-year-old Mia Edwards, who attends Holgate Primary School, will be cutting her hair on April 29 and donating it to The Little Princess Trust which is a charity that provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Mia’s mum Katherine said: “She wanted to cut her hair anyway because she was getting bored of having it very long and she’s an avid Tik Tok user and she saw videos of people on there who had donated their hair to the charity and she decided she wanted to do the same.

"We were going to do this in January but unfortunately, we went back into lockdown again, so we’ve had to wait until now."

Mia’s hair currently is currently more than 70 centimetres long and stretches all the way down her back.

She’s having it cut to shoulder length so there will be plenty of hair going to the charity.

Katherine continued: “She’s a bit nervous about it but I told her don’t worry, it will grow back.

"I think she’s a little bit anxious about it as people will never have seen her with short hair before because, apart from the odd trim, she’s never had it cut.

"So she will look different to people and it will be a new experience for her.

"But it’s all for a good cause and that’s what she wants to do it for.

"One of our friends who runs the Red Lion pub in Hucknall set up a funding page for Mia and she made £89 within the first morning and the cash donations being promised mean she will soon be well over £100.

"She wants to raise as much as possible and at least £150 as that will cover the cost of making the wig and then anything extra can go towards making another one.”
