More than £1,000 was racked up via an online fundraising page which will be donated to the food bank at the Under One Roof community resource centre, on Vine Terrace.

An additional £600 raised by active communities manager Rebecca Phillips will go to Carlton Food Bank.

The cash will be used to buy items including children’s toys, fresh fruit and vegetables, biscuits and chocolates, gift sets and toiletries.

Lorenzo Clark, of centre management company Everyone Active, said: “It was great to see our staff continue to support the local community, even while the site was closed.

“We are really proud of them for raising money for such a worthy cause. Hopefully, the donations will make a real difference to families in the local area this Christmas.”

The centre was closed for most of November but, keen to keep playing their part in residents’ wellbeing, 13 employees laced up their trainers and headed out on the roads.

Each covered 100km, with most running the distance, some walking and others cycling.

Rebecca was joined in the challenge by Deanna Housley, Susan Davidson, Kathryn Corbet, Trudy Stanley, Sara Harrison, Kelly Welsh, Thomas Harvey, Holly Brown, Charlotte Chambers, Jacqui Jenson, Sharon Tasker and Holly Brown.

Staff wish to say a special thank you to Indie Print & Design for their help with the fundraiser.

The leisure centre reopened its doors on Wednesday, December 2, and staff are back at work, after albeit with some changes to accommodate tier three Covid precautions.

Visits must be booked in advance and groups limited to household bubbles to support social distancing. For full details, see https://bit.ly/2IqjA90.
