George Webb, who lives in Long Hill Rise, Hucknall, will be turning 100-years-old on Saturday, February 27.

Hayley Dorn, George’s carer, said: I’m going to decorate the front of his house and take him outside for a short while so people can come and say hello.

“He’s a lovely man and over the years he has always been so helpful.

"No one has ever had a bad word to say against him. He is so friendly and if his neighbours ever needed anything doing he would be there to help them.

“He is very much a people person. He always wanted to be involved with the groups and helping to organise things.

“He used to love going out for a coffee and cake and meeting up with old friends as he quite social. But that will come back and we will get to take him out again.”

George was born in Ealing and joined the RAF when he was just 17-years-old and he trained and worked in photo intelligence.

Over the years he was stationed in Farnborough, Waddington and Matlock.

And it was while he was stationed in Matlock that he met his wife, Prudence, and they were married for 72 years.

They had one son, a grandaughter and a grandson, who now live in Australia.

After 12 years in the RAF George moved to Rolls Royce in Hucknall in there photography department where he eventually become the manager and he remained there until he retired.

Hayley said: “When he retired he set up his own RAF reunion group which he ran for ten years.

"He loved arranging the meetings and they went away for weekend trips. He has lots of happy memories of that.

“Before lockdown he used to like to go out on trips to Derbyshire and back to Matlock to go over old ground.

"He is looking forward to his birthday and he has asked me if he can wear his medals on the day as he didn’t get a chance to wear them on Remembrance Day.”

Karen Barrett, a friend of George, said: “Even though he hasn't raised millions of pounds for the NHS, he's the nearest thing Hucknall has to Captain Sir Tom and is loved by all who know him.”
