Hucknall still remember the fallen with scaled back ceremony

Commemorations to mark Remembrance Day in Hucknall looked very different this year as Covid-19 restrictions forced the ceremony to be scaled back.

Due to Covid- 19 restrictions the service at the Cenotaph in Hucknall was greatly reduced and instead of the usual procession and service there was just a short wreath laying service which took place at the Cenotaph and was conducted by the Revd. Helen Chantry who said prayers and a short address,

During the service the Act of Homage was said, The Last Post and Reveille was played followed by the laying of 25 Wreaths including one layed by the Deputy Lord lieutenant Richard Bullock on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, by Coun John Wilmott on behalf of Ashfield District Council, Notting hamshamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping, all the Armed Services, the p olice, and many other organisations.

A number of the general public attended and social distancing took place throughout.

Coun John Wilmott representing Ashfield District Council at the commemoration service said: “W e must say a big thank you to The Royal British Legion Hucknall Branch for all hard work done in preparing this event.”

Hucknall Neighbourhood Sergeant PS Morley and Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping also joined the Service in Titchfiel d Park for two minutes silence and to lay wreaths.

Ashfield District Council Leader, Coun Jason Zadrozny, laid the wreath on behalf of the council in Kirkby.

He said: “I would like to thank all the organisations who did such a tremendous job organising commemorations for Remembrance Sunday.

"Obviously, this year was completely different and I would like to thank residents for ensuring social distancing and marking the two minute silence on their doorsteps.

"Thousands of residents decorated their windows and were out ensuring that we don’t forget those who gave so much for us.”

Ashfield District Council also live streamed a service on its Fa cebook page to allow people to still take part in the commemorations and is still available to watch at www.facebook.com/ADCAshfield​​​​​​​.
