Nottingham Beach and Riverside Festival are cancelled

Two major summer events attracting thousands of visitors have been cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Nottingham Beach and the city’s Riverside Festival have been cancelled by the city council.

Social distancing measures and the current ban on live entertainment resulted in the tough decision.

The Nottingham Beach, was due to open in Old Market Square on July 23 and run through the school holidays until August 31.

The Riverside Festival, which attracts more than 200,000 people, would have celebrated its 40th anniversary over the weekend of July 31.

The announcement follows the previous cancellation of Splendour, Nottingham Carnival and Nottinghamshire Pride.
