Opening of Hucknall's new £3 million cinema postponed due to coronavirus

The long awaited opening of Hucknall’s new £3million Arc Cinema on the site of the town’s former Byron cinema has been postponed due to coronavirus.

It was planned to open to paying customers on Friday next week (March 26) – with a VIP special screening the night before including some Dispatch readers.

But the decision has been made to delay the opening until the crisus around COVID-19 has subsided.

Brian Gilligan, of The Arc Cinema, said: “We are disappointed not to be able to open our new cinema as planned. We are sure people will understand that it would not be practical or responsible to do so given the current circumstances around the virus.

“The cinema is very nearly ready though and rest assured we will open as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The cinema will have 425 luxury leather electric recliner seats with masses of legroom, laser digital projection and Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound.

Access for all is key to The Arc Cinema’s offer with all screens four wheelchair accessible and subtitled screenings, kids’ clubs and parent and baby screenings part of the offer.

The cinema will show the latest blockbuster and independent films as well as broadcast

screenings of opera, ballet and theatrical productions.

There will be a full range of delicious snacks and drinks on offer and all the screens are licensed so you can enjoy a beer or glass of wine while watching a film.
