Mark Spencer, member of Parliament for Sherwood said: “It is great to see the Government investing so heavily in our hardworking police force.

“Since Boris Johnson made his pledge to recruit 20,000 more police officers by 2023, we’ve already recruited more than 6,000 more police officers nationally, and for us here in Nottinghamshire we’ve got 132 new officers for our towns and villages.

“I am proud to be a member of the Government that seeks to make our local areas safer, with a clear commitment to level up our law enforcement teams.

“The Police Force are among the best of us, and it is fantastic to see the Government re-stating their commitment to them.

“Whether you live in Calverton, Hucknall, Blidworth, Edwinstowe, Ollerton, or anywhere in between, I am sure that we can agree that this extra funding will go a long way to delivering on the people’s priorities and making our local communities safer.

“By backing our police with the funding, powers and resources they need, we are keeping the public and our communities safe, so that people everywhere can live their lives free from the fear of crime.”

Crime in Nottinghamshire reduced at twice the rate of the national average up to November 2020.

And Nottinghamshire Police is also leading the way nationally in bolstering its ranks by recruiting more front line officers as part of the national Uplift programme.

By careful planning over the past two years, the force will have taken on 250 additional officers by the end of March, with a further 100 new posts in the next financial year.
