Plans for new health and wellbeing centre in Kirkby

Views are being sought about plans to transform a Kirkby GP practice into a state-of-the-art health and wellbeing (HWB) centre.

The new centre proposes to integrate health and social care services under one roof and would be built on the site of the existing Kirkby Health Centre on Lowmoor Road.

Subject to planning permission, the current building would be demolished and a new building created to include the GP practice and the new centre, catering for patients, carers and the general population.

The idea is being spearheaded by local GP Dr Raman Prabu who now wants to hear the views on the plans of patients, carers, commissioners and voluntary, community and private sector providers.

In a letter about the proposal, Dr Prabu said: “At the heart of the design of the new HWB Centre is the principle of providing care for patients with high support needs, whilst making links with a range of wellbeing and preventative services provided in the area.”

An event is set to be held this summer at which people can find out more about the proposals and suggest what support and services should be available at the facility.
