Police say: ‘protect your sheds’

A POLICE helicopter flew into action to assist officers on the ground in Hucknall leading to two arrests following a number of shed and garage break-ins.

Police are now warning residents to be on their guard and protect their property after a number of incidents involving sheds, outbuildings and garages.

Incidents have taken place in recent weeks on Peregrine Road, Hucknall, where a garden shed was broken into and a silver mountain bike and a green ladies hybrid racer bike were stolen. In the same evening in Falcon Way, Hucknall, two people were disturbed around some garages.

“This incident was quickly reported to the police which enabled officers and a dog handler to secure the area,” said a police spokesman. “With the assistance of the police helicopter, we were able to pinpoint the location of the possible offenders.

“The helicopter was also able to provide video footage of the incident. The two bikes were recovered and two arrests were made.”

This time of year sees an increase in thefts from gardens and sheds. Police are asking homeowners to take some simple and cost-effective measures that could reduce them becoming a victim by locking away gardening tools and ensure ladders are kept securely locked.
