Hucknall MP hosts Education Secretary at town school for World Book Day
Hucknall MP Michelle Welsh (Lab) welcomed Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson MP (Lab) to Flying High Academy in the town to celebrate World Book Day and highlight the importance of reading for pleasure.
During the visit, Ms Phillipson met with pupils and staff, read to the children, and heard directly from children about their favourite books and the joy they find in reading.
The visit showcased the school’s efforts to encourage a lifelong love of reading among its students.
Ms Welsh said: “Reading opens doors for young people, helping them to learn, imagine and build the skills they need for the future.

"It was fantastic to welcome the Education Secretary to Hucknall and to see first-hand the enthusiasm pupils at Flying High Academy have for books.
“I’m proud to be working with the Labour Government to ensure that every child can achieve and thrive at school.
"Ensuring all children have access to books is key to their development and initiatives like World Book Day help inspire a love of reading that can last a lifetime.”
Throughout the visit, pupils shared their favourite stories and discussed the characters and adventures that have inspired them most.
Staff also highlighted the school’s commitment to building strong reading habits from an early age.
The visit formed part of national celebrations for World Book Day, which encourages children and young people to discover the enjoyment of reading.
