Hucknall residents asked to help take action on potholes

Potholes form when the road surface freezes and thaws repeatedly, and while most common in winter and early spring, they can form anywhere and at any time.

Nottinghamshire County Council is asking residents to report potholes through the website or via the MyNotts App so that those meeting the criteria for repair can be filled.

Despite £24 million of funding into the county’s highways over the last three years, residents are being reminded that this doesn’t mean that all roads in Nottinghamshire can be resurfaced and safety repairs are an important part of keeping highway users safe.

Coun John Cottee, chairman of the communities and place committee at the council, said: “In the last three months, Via East Midlands has repaired a total of 7,616 potholes.

“We know that this is a very important subject in our communities and that residents may be concerned when they see potholes in their local area.

“With 2,734 miles of roads to cover, highways inspection teams cannot be in every location at once.

“That is why it is so important for residents to report any potholes or road defects that they see to us, otherwise we may not know about it.”
