Prime Minister to '˜look carefully' at struggling King's Mill Hospital trust

The trusts, which runs King’s Mill Hospital, was dumped into special measures by health watchdogs, the CQC, after a damning report revealed too many patients were dying and it faces an annual £33 million debt.

As a result, the trust is now in talks to be taken over by Nottingham or Derby’s NHS trust.

MP for Sherwood, Mark Spencer, raised the issue during a packed Prime Minister’s Questions in the Commons today.

He said: “Luckily there’s light at the end of the tunnel as Nottingham or Derby trust look to take over Sherwood, but can the Prime Minister assist them in any way in solving this enormous mess?”

In response, Mr Cameron said: “My understanding is that the CQC is absolutely clear that Sherwood Forest Hospitals needs a long-term partnership and I understand the trust plans to announce its preferred partner in mid February.

“It will hopefully help to support the services that it needs, but I will look carefully at the suggestions made.”
