£2m investment to prevent burst pipes near A38

A £2m investment is set to prevent burst pipes and traffic disruption in the area.

Severn Trent has announced the cash boost to make water supplies more reliable.

Work is being done because in recent months a number of burst pipes have affected motorists travelling along the A38.

Severn Trent Water is now replacing large water pipes to help prevent this from happening again.

Programme manager, Nigel McGuinness, explains: “This is a big job for us, we’re investing £2.1 million to help make sure taps in the area work when they’re needed. However, we don’t want to cause chaos on the roads and in the community while we work to help our customers.”

The project consists of two phases. The first phase of work starts on Monday on Nunn Brook Road and traffic lights will be in place.

Work is expected to finish by January. The second phase will start immediately afterwards and will be carried out on Huthwaite Lane, Common Road, Blackwell Road and Rookery Lane.

He said they were able to avoid working on the A38 because of specialist equipment to replace the water pipes underneath it.

It is expected to be finished by summer next year.
