Public meeting opposing 200 home housing proposal in Sutton

Developers David Wilson Homes are proposing to build 201 houses but have not yet submitted a planning application.

The public meeting to discuss all aspects of the planning process will be held at Mansfield Hosiery Mills on Huthwaite Road from 7-8.30pm.

Malcolm Hull of the Ashland Road West and Brierley Park Residents’ Action Group,said; “We are looking into our future plans for joining the neighbourhood planning system, so we can have a say on any future plans which might come along.

“We have to have 21 people on a committee to be able to do that. We need to know if residents are committed to fighting a planning application and we need to start raising money.”

Developers David Wilson Homes held a public consultation on July 15th at Brierley Forest Park visitor centre seeking views on the proposal.

The proposed development would incorporate a range of new homes to cater for all potential household sizes, primarily aimed at families.

Residents say the development would ruin Brierley Forest Park.

Sutton West Councillor Ramon Buttery is backing residents who are opposing the development.

He has concerns about infrastructure, space in local schools, medical provision and traffic.

Coun Buttery said: “Everybody around here is objecting to it.

“Another 200 houses means about 400 more cars and more children.

“I have asked the developers where the new school was in the plans.”
