READER LETTER: Wishing you well Nick

It is with deep regret that I heard this week that our local Commander of the Ashfield South Police Force, Nick Butler, is leaving to take up a post as the Mansfield local commander.

He has been with us for six years and has grown to be one of the most respected inspectors since the time of Inspector Peter Sadler’s days in Hucknall.

He has always made himself available, both to the community and to his working partners, the council representatives and representatives of all the voluntary groups. Over the time he has been with us crime in the area has been substantially reduced, and this has been achieved despite a huge reduction in funding, and has only been possible by commitment, dedication and professionalism by Inspector Butler and his team of police officers.

The police are facing huge financial challenges and the district of Ashfield will now only have one inspector for the whole of the district.

This will be Inspector Glenn Longden, who is moving from Sutton in Ashfield.

I hope everyone gives the new inspector a warm welcome.

The commencement of the new appointments takes place from February 2.

May I say the town of Hucknall faces many challenges and we must all work together to make it a better place to live.
