The annual event is marking three decades of attractions at the country park during this special week of fun for the whole family.

Despite this celebration of times gone by, festival-goers are being asked to bring the event into the 21st century by using social media and selfies to record their enjoyment.

This year’s event runs from 4-10th August and is a free family event, organised by Nottinghamshire County Council at the Edwinstowe based park.

“Around 2,500 people have liked Sherwood’s Facebook Festival Folk page with characters including Robin, the Sheriff of Nottingham and storyteller Robert of Wentbridge being profiled,” said a spokesman.

“The page has attracted interest from Robin Hood fans both at home and abroad and this year visitors can load their ‘Sherwood Selfies’ during the festival on www.facebook.com/robinhoodfestival or use the hashtag #SherwoodSelfie on Twitter.

Coun John Knight, committee chairman for culture, at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “We are delighted about the interest that has been generated in the festival so far on the Facebook Festival Folk page.

“It’s a big celebration for us - as we are celebrating 30 years since our first festival in 1984.”

One of the Festival Folk characters and Coun Knight will judge the winning selfie from entries during the week.

There is a car parking charge of £5 per day with a whole host of activities taking place from jousting to sideshows, entertainment, food, drink, attractions including a falconry display and of course Robin and his Merry Men.

There is plenty to keep the whole family entertained throughout this week-long festival.
