RSPCA hunt for yob who yanked cat's tail so hard it had to be put down

The RSPCA is appealing for information after a cat suffered such serious injuries from having her tail yanked that she had to be put to sleep.

The two-year-old white and tortoiseshell female cat was found by her owner with the injuries after she went missing for 14 hours - between 8am and 10pm - on Saturday, May 21, from her home in Riddell Avenue, in Langold, near Worksop.

She was immediately taken to a vet by her owner, who assessed injuries to her face and her spine.

RSPCA inspector Keith Ellis, who is investigating, said: “The vet stated that the injuries were very likely because her tail had been yanked very hard. This damaged the cat’s nerves, which prevented the cat from emptying her bladder and her injuries were so serious that the vet advised she be put to sleep to prevent further suffering.

“The cat would have suffered a great deal of pain and it is very important that we find out what happened to her, as it is likely that this was not an accident.

“We are urging anyone who has any information to contact us in complete confidence on 0300 123 8018.”
