Schools and businesses ‘clean up’ at awards

More than 306 bags of rubbish were collected by 45 groups in just one day, as part of this year’s International Clean Up Mansfield Day.

The global event was staged by other Mansfields around the world, including Connecticut, Missouri, Ohio and Pennsylvania in the USA and Victoria in Australia.

International Clean Up Awards were presented to a range of groups and everyone who took part in the day received a certificate recognising their contribution to the clean-up.

I Do Bridal Boutique won the Business Innovation Award, while the School Innovation Award saw Eastlands and Netherfield Primary Schools take first place, Mansfield Primary Academy in second and Wynndale Primary School in third.

Friends of Fisher Lane claimed the Friends Group Award, Innova House and Maun Conservation Group the Community Award and Maun Troop, 4th Mansfield Woodhouse Scout Group the Young Person Award.

“This is now an international and national award winning community event, which shows that our district and other Mansfields across the globe care and have pride in the places where they live,” said coun Phil Shields, portfolio holder for the environment at Mansfield District Council.

“Congratulations to everyone who took part and well done to our award winners. It is really important we keep the momentum of this event going and have an even larger turn out next year.”
