Sparkles, superheroes and fun at alternative bash

A SPARKLING event at the John Godber Centre in Hucknall provided a shining example of an alternative to Hallowe'en.

For the venue played host to an autumn light party on Saturday October 31.

Instead of the traditional Hallowe'en fancy dress of ghosts, ghouls and witches, visitors of all ages were asked to dress as superheroes and wear bright, sparkly clothing.

The inaugural event was organised by the Ogle Street centre and members of the nearby parish church on Market Place. It attracted about 60 visitors.

The party was targeted at families and also featured a licensed bar, raffle, refreshments and a performance from Phil 'The Entertainer' Rostance, of Hucknall.

Profits made from ticket-sales will go towards boosting family and children's activities at the centre.

Events manager Louise Moody said: "This is the first time we have held something along these lines and it was an excellent night. I hope it becomes an annual event."
