He was to spend six weeks in both the Queens Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital, and although it was thought the leg might be saved, it had to be amputated through the knee.
Ryan has now had 16 operations in total, and hopes to eventually be able to use a prosthetic leg, although he will not be able to return to work as a warehouse operative.
Following his injuries, he discovered the work of the Limbless Association, an organisation dedicated to helping people who have lost limbs.

“You have to learn to walk again, and there are things I can’t do, like be a warehouse worker.
“I came across the work of the Limbless Association and thought that there is something I can do to help others.
“There isn’t a lot of charity support for young amputees out there and more should be done to help their recovery to give everyone a better lifestyle.”
