Sutton Man jailed after car chase and violent assault

A Mansfield judge heard how on 9th June Bradley Dawes pursued his victim in a friend’s car until she turned down a one-way street - having been told earlier that day she no longer wanted to see him.

Neil Hollett, prosecuting, said: “The defendant opened up the passenger door, grabbed her phone and stamped on it.

“She was then grabbed by the defendant and dragged from the vehicle and forced into his friend’s car. He then hit her with a lot of force to the side of her face.”

The court was told how Dawes’ victim was too scared to say anything as his friend drove them around but she was eventually dropped off at hospital after her ex-partner fled the car.

Mark Stocks, defending, said he hoped Dawes’ guilty plea on the day of his trial would earn him some credit.

He added: “Mr Dawes’ father is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence in excess of 20 years and his mother has disappeared. He has struggled to come to terms with the effects of loneliness.”

District Judge Diane Baker said: “This is one of the most shocking assaults I have dealt with in magistrates’ court for a common assault.

“She was terrified and phoned the police, desperate as to what would happen.

“Having cornered her you hit her with such force in the face her eye required hospital treatment .

“She was absolutely terrified and it is a matter that will last with her the rest of her life.”

Dawes, of Tudor Street, also admitted criminal damage. He was given a two-year restraining order in respect of his former girlfriend.
