The BBC visit the Byron cinema in an attempt to help boost funding

The visit was organised by Hucknall Coun Ben Bradley, following a request for support from local Councillors at a recent Ashfield Committee meeting.

The team, lead by their Chairman Ria Cash, are currently trying to raise £3,000 for a the screen that will allow them to show films in the main theatre, now that the seating has been installed and refurbished.

The broader plan for the project, which would see the full refurbishment of the cinema site to all of the pomp and splendour of its 1930s décor, would cost £1.9 million and be a huge boost to Hucknall’s economy as a cinema, theatre, café, conference room, and community centre among other things. There is the potential for a national arts grant to supply the bulk of that money, but only if the local team can find £190,000 of the total cost up front.

Following the visit Mr Spencer also wrote to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to see if they could help towards the target.
