Town’s jam event ‘bigger and ‘better

A big music event launched in Kimberley last year is set to return next weekend.

The Kimberley Jam – which raised £1,500 for a local charity in 2014 – is back next Saturday and organisers say it will be bigger and better than the first one.

There will be live music, entertainment and fun at venues across the town, attracting music acts and fans from across the county.

Last year the event raised over £1,500 for the Ryan Lee Trust and proved such a huge success that organisers have been working hard to make it bigger and better with the intention of it being a permanent fixture on the town’s calendar.

The original seeds were sewn with the demise of the Kimberley Pram Race.

“We needed something to take its place and bring a little life back to our town”, recalls organiser and founder, Graham Cooke.

“I spoke about the idea with Ian ‘Jock’ Campbell literally a few days before he passed away and he was instrumental in its conception.”

Jock was a well-known and respected figure in the community who was central to events such as the pram race.

The event is being backed by Broxtowe Borough Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Kimberley Town Council.

Kimberley Jam will bring music to the whole town including five pubs, two outdoor stages and several busk stops. Between 12 and 5pm the Jock Campbell stage will be in the Toll Bar Square and The Madhatters stage will be in James Street car park.

The Ryan Lee Trust provides support to children and teenagers diagnosed with cancer.
