UPDATE: All lanes open again on M1 southbound between Chesterfield and Mansfield following accident

The M1 southbound has fully re-opened between junction 29 for Chesterfield and junction 28 for Mansfield following an earlier accident.

Initially, three lanes were shut on the stretch of road and two then stayed shut for some time while recovery and clean-up operations took place.

However, drivers can still expect some delays while queuing traffic on the motorway and surrounding roads clears.

National Highways East Midlands tweeted: “The vehicles involved in the earlier collision on the M1 south have now been recovered from the scene. Traffic Officers have cleared the debris and reopened all of the lanes with residual delays of 60 minutes on the approach.”
