And in a separate incident another pupil was taken to hospital to have his injured hand checked out after he was clipped by a car wing mirror.

“One young man was on his way to school when he skidded and came off his bicycle. We were soon on the scene to make him safe and called an ambulance with it being a head injury as a precaution.

“Another lad was cycling on the pavement and he pedalled onto the road to avoid some wheelie bins. A car was passing and his hand was clipped.

“He’s been taken to hospital to have it checked out.”

“They should both have paid a bit more attention and riding on the pavement isn’t a good idea - but it they were not seriously hurt and it is something we have all done at one time or another.”

He said the school took road safety very seriously and regularly took pupils out to explain the dangers they faced.
