Video: Mansfield’s Roger The Mascot need your help to win World Cup single

Mansfield Indie-funk band Roger The Mascot are hoping the power of social media will make their new song Bad Boi England’s official World Cup single.

An acoustic performance of the song, filmed just minutes after it was written at a house party, has proved a big hit on Facebook, with more than 500 shares so far.

The song has attracted so many views, likes and shares across various social media sites it is sitting in first place in a world-wide competition for the most popular World Cup song.

Bass guitarist Matt King said: “It is a song about the life of a typical England fan. Rather than write a song about England we wanted it to be about a fan and how he goes about his day.

“It is cheeky and has a bouncy, fun vibe which you cannot get out of your head. The end chorus just grabs you.

“We have tested it out at a couple of gigs and people loved it. I have heard a lot of World Cup songs over the years and this is easily as good as the likes of Three Lions.”

World Cup Song 2014 entries are ranked by the amount of views, hits, likes and shares they get on social media sites so the band needs as many people as possible to help them promote the single.

“It is something we really want to get out there,” said Matt.

“Our goal is to get this song out to the nation and for them to hear it.”

Bad Boi (England What’s Goin On?) will be available for download on Amazon, iTunes, 7 digital and Google Play for download from 26th May.

Roger The Mascot will be performing Bad Boi live at Mansfield’s Stag and Pheasant on 15th May.

Entry is £2 on the door, with all proceeds going to cancer support charity Clic Sargent.

The band is also hosting a single release party at Warsop’s Black Market on 25th May. Entry is £4 on the door.
