Voluntary flooding wardens needed

Communities are being encouraged to prepare for possible November floods by finding about a scheme which allows residents to warn motorists and close roads in the event of surface water flooding.

Nottinghamshire County Council has trained volunteers to erect signs warning drivers to slow down or close permitted roads in a safe way when the flooding is significant.

Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, Chairman of the County Council’s Community Safety Community, said: “Local volunteers are often best placed to respond quickly to a flooding situation. We are keen to hear from other communities who are interested in starting a flood signage scheme.”
