Warsop: Faithful Fred’s 75 years of bell ringing service

Friends and ringing colleagues have been quick to pay tribute to lifelong resident of the town, Fred Flint, following his death at the age of 94.

A founder member of the Southwell Diocesan Guild, Mr Flint was the first ringing master of its North Notts District.

Born in Warsop. he worked locally prior to his retirement at Adam Eastwood and Sons as a mechanical and transport plant manager.

He held the position of tower captain at St Peter and St Paul Church, Warsop, where he trained up more than 100 ringers.

His longevity as a parish ringer was highlighted by the fact four new bells were installed in the tower during his service of more than 75 years.

“He was very patient with those who were learning and was highly respected and extremely dedicated. It was his life,” said fellow bell ringer Adrian Hardy.

Helen Simpson added on facebook: “My parents split up just before I got married.

“The only thing I would not sacrifice was the bells. I had to have them and they were wonderful. God bless Fred.”
