Battling Town grab goalless draw

GUTSY Hucknall Town cast aside problems on and off the field to earn a goalless draw at King's Lynn on Saturday.

The result ended a run of three successive defeats for The Yellows at the bottom of the Blue Square North table.

They went into the match reeling from the bombshell news that they have been expelled from the Notts FA Senior Cup for fielding an ineligible player, Gary Ricketts, in their Third Round win.

And they have also been rocked by confirmation that they could soon lose two of their best players, midfielder Laurie Wilson and top scorer Danny Bacon.

Manager Bryan Chambers says Town have received offers from other non-league clubs for Wilson and Bacon, who could be on their way before the transfer deadline in March.

The result at mid-table King's Lynn gained The Yellows little ground in the scrap to avoid relegation -- because fellow strugglers Burscough won and Blyth Spartans picked up an unexpected point at Alfreton Town. However both Hyde United and Redditch United were beaten.

In front of a crowd of 921 at The Walks Stadium, Town showed lots of character to grind out the point. Amazingly, it was The Linnets' 15th draw in 31 league matches this season.

It was a drab game with chances at a premium. But a draw was a fair result.

The Yellows' next Blue Square North match is at home to Solihull Moors on Saturday March 7 (kick-off 3 pm).
