Bedstead spoil leaders'unbeaten start to season

FLYING Bedstead stole the limelight in the HUCKNALL EPA POOL LEAGUE by inflicting the first defeat of the season on leaders Spot-On (Hucknall) Sharks.

Bedstead surged into leads of 2-0 and 4-1 and although Sharks pulled it back to 4-3, victory on the last leg wrapped up the points for the home side.

The result means that only one point now separates five teams at the top of the table, with the Sharks level alongside Maltshovel and Chequers Inn A.

While Chequers A hit back from 2-1 down to beat The Hucknall Empire 5-3 in the hands of Malc Grocock, Craig Johnstone, Simon Thompson and Nidge Orton.

Just behind the top three are Royal British Legion A and Lord Nelson/Spot-On Club (Bulwell).

Legion A won 6-2 in an inter-club derby against Royal British Legion B thanks to victories from Joe Etherington, Tony Dobb, Ryan Orton, Ash Dobb and the pairings of Richard Devine and Tim McShane and Nigel Burton and Martin Bremner. While Nelson/Spot eased to a 7-1 triumph at Chequers Inn.

Elsewhere Harrier returned home from Seven Stars with a 5-3 victory, courtesy of Dave Ellis, Martin Saxton, George Roy, Mark Bailey and the partnership of Ellis and Mick Fowkes.

And Liberal Club disposed of Station Hotel (Hucknall) B by the same scoreline, although only after throwing away a 4-1 lead and then claiming the final leg as the visitors ran out of players.

The night’s other two matches resulted in George Street licking Green Dragon 7-1 and Sherwood Ranger beating Bestwood Village Social Club. But both Street and Ranger will be stripped of the points because they failed to submit the results to the league on time.
