Clipstone land big-hitting Barbadian

Bassetlaw League Clipstone Welfare Cricket Club have announced their intentions ahead of the upcoming summer with the signing of Justin Brathwaite.

The club swooped in to recruit Brathwaite after his exploits for Barbados in the Caribbean T20 this time last year.

The strongly-built batsman made his debut for Barbados last year following dominant performances for LIME Cricket Club in the Barbados Elite Division and BCA Sagicor General Twenty20 Championships.

In six matches he produced some notable innings, opening the batting alongside West Indies star Dwayne Smith.

That included a 16-ball 42 on his debut against the Leeward Islands and 23 from 10 balls against rivals Jamaica.

A few months later, Brathwaite played against the touring Warwickshire side, hitting 37 from 32 balls for Barbados, and is now looking to break into the limited over and first class sides.

To help press for higher honours, Brathwaite has now decided he will ply his trade in the Bassetlaw and District Competition in 2014.

Clipstone, who finished fourth in the Championship Division last season, will be hoping their explosive Barbadian recruit will help plunder them the runs they need for promotion to the Notts Premier League this summer.
