Maxwell and Ahmed dig deep for Hucknall

After winning the toss and electing to field, Hucknall took an early wicket.

But it didn’t knock Notts off their stride as the amassed 218-9 from their 50 overs at Notts Sports Club. Lyndon James made 56, Anuj Dai 42, Liam Patterson-White 28 as the majority of the batsmen reached double figures.

Jake Libby was the pick of the bowlers for Hucknall, taking 4-70 from 15 overs.

In reply, Hucknall were cautious. Robin Maxwell 26*, from 50 deliveries, and Suhail Ahmed 14*, from 49, saw Hucknall to a draw.

Libby had earlier made 44, from 100 deliveries, and Dale Campbell 39, from 65.

Patterson-White (3-44 from 14 overs) and Anis Raza (2-38 from 15 overs) shouldered most of the bowling duties.

Meanwhile, Hucknall II continued their terrific form with a 20-point home win over Collingham & District, thanks again to top order batting and a sound bowling performance.

Asked to bat first Hucknall lost Andy Carden with seven on the board but Shaun Caudwell and man of the moment George Buckthorpe put on 44 although Buckthorpe was fortunate to survive a routine catch to first slip early in his innings.

Caudwell drove spinner Gary Clarke to cover for 15 which brought in Adam Brown and he and Buckthorpe made a match winning partnership of 94 for the third wicket.

Both reached fine half centuries, Buckthorpe for the third consecutive innings before Brown fell to Clarke for 55. Antony Freeman kept the scoreboard moving but was involved in a mix up with Buckthorpe which saw the youngster run out for 72.

Jimmy Guthrie was out first ball and then Freeman was bowled for 20.

However Tim Buckthorpe with a quick fire 27 finished the innings off as Hucknall reached 211-6. Clarke was the pick of the bowlers with 3-49.

Collingham also got off to a bad start as Graeme Wright had David Daykin lbw in his first over.

Spinner Paul Harley made the breakthrough when Taylor Bowers (31) chipped a delivery straight back to him and shorty afterwards he bowled Clarke and then likewise to Ross Taylor (29).

At 71-5 Hucknall had a grip on the game. Josh Sugden though had different ideas with a half century losing Tom Rich on the way and then Adran Kitchen.

When Rich went for 59 by Guthrie it was the fatal wound to the Collingham chase as the old timers Tim Buckthorpe and Wright mopped up the tail and victory achieved with a couple of overs to spare.

Harley was the pick of the bowlers with 4-40 but although wicketless Farooq’s 12 overs for 34 was also important in building pressure. Wright took 3-33.
