Ex-skipper Timons leaves Town

FORMER club captain Chris Timons has made a surprise exit from Hucknall Town.

Experienced centre-back Timons, an ex-professional, joined Ilkeston Town on the eve of The Yellows' Blue Square North match at home to tabletopping Kettering Town last Saturday.

The 33-year-old led Hucknall in their glorious run to the FA Trophy final at Villa Park in 2004/05. As skipper, he would have picked up the trophy had not The Yellows lost in a penalty shootout against Grays Athletic.

Timons was virtually an ever-present that season, having been signed the previous summer by Ernie Moss in his brief reign as manager.

He went on to make 28 appearances (plus 11 as substitute) the following campaign before he was released by Kevin Wilson in March 2006 to join divisional rivals, Harrogate Town.

Timons spent all of last season at Harrogate before returning to the Watnall Road, at the behest of Andy Legg, last summer.

This term, he has made 21 appearances, plus five as substitute, but he has struggled to hold down a regular place since the arrival of new boss David Lloyd.

Timons, who works as a firefighter, began his professional career at Mansfield Town where he made 40 first-team starts between 1994 and 1996.

He then had spells at Chesterfield and Leyton Orient before drifting into the non-league game. As well as Hucknall, he has played for Gainsborough Trinity, Altrincham and Stalybridge Celtic.

This is his second spell at Ilkeston, who are mamnaged by former Nottingham Forest striker Nigel Jemson. They play one level below The Yellows in the Premier Division of the Unibond League where they are languishing in the bottom five.

Timons made his latest debut in Ilkeston's 2-1 defeat away to top-of-the-table Witton Albion last Saturday.

Lloyd is hoping that the departure of Timons will free up room and money to bring in new faces.

And the first of those is 23-year-old midfielder Jordan Hall, who signed in time to make his debut in the defeat by Kettering.

Hall has joined Hucknall on a month's loan from Buxton who, like Ilkeston, play in the Unibond League's Premier Division.

Having started his career at Chesterfield, he has spent the last two seasons with the Derbyshire club, making 71 appearances (plus 30 as substitute) and scoring ten goals. However he had lost his place in recent weeks.
